Walk: Circular from Dent
September 21, 2019 @ 08:00 - 17:00
Our walk on Saturday 21st September will be led by Ann and Kay – a circular walk of 8.5 miles from Dent Village Car Park (next to the Information Centre and opposite the village school). The expected charge for the use of the car park all day is £4.50. There is an opportunity to shorten the walk towards the end if necessary.
The Walk begins directly behind the village – Flinter Gill tumbles over a series of rock ledges in a deep wooded ravine. It leads steeply uphill to meet the Occupation Road (there is plenty to see on the climb so we will take our time and make plenty of stops). Running across the northern flank of Great Coum it links the Dent-Ingleton road with that from Dent to Barbon. An old packhorse way and service road for the enclosures, it provides marvellous sweeping views over Dentdale. The walk along the Dee’s banks is delightful, and much of the walk is overlooked by the colourful hollow of Combe Scar on the south side and the more docile Rise Hill to the north. The Route is mostly on firm tracks and riverbank paths with stiles.
Depart Colvend 08.00 and 10.00 from Dent Village Car Park (OS Explorer Map, grid 704870). Toilets are available at Dent Village Car Park.
