These Mandarin Ducks were spotted on Hebden Beck and later, on the Wharfe just above Hebden Swing Bridge. Soon after three male Goosander flew over the Wharfe. The two species compete for nesting sites. A number of Curlew have also been seen.

An upcoming outing for the Walking Group and the Geology Group have also been added to the Calendar, so please look out for them.

Established in 2004, the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust’s mission is to enhance and protect the rivers Swale, Ure, Nidd, Wharfe and Ouse and neighbouring catchments by delivering practical and educational projects, inspiring communities and working in partnership. Dr. Marie Taylor's talk will offer insight into the charity’s projects, showcasing effective partnerships and how they collaborate to engage and inspire communities within their river catchments.

In the 1850's the Hebden Moor Mining Company invested much time and effort into exploiting the resources but the area was only productive for about a decade. Today significant evidence of the lead workings are still evident with a hush line, reservoir and several derelict buildings being visible.
