Here’s a good news story from our Ornithology Special Interest Group leader. Win Clements has sent in this picture of Spotted Flycatchers soon to fledge from a box in her garden. Spotted Flycatchers were a very common garden bird in this area several decades ago, but these charming little, and very useful, birds, have declined considerably. Primarily, it is believed, due to problems in their African wintering grounds, so it is very good news that they are still breeding successfully in our locality. We’ll welcome them back next summer.
