Visit to Menwith Hill

Hanneke kindly arranged for us a trip to RAF Menwith Hill which was enjoyed by all who attended. She says

“Originally, I had organised a trip to Menwith Hill for 2020 when 38 members had shown an interest.

Sadly, this trip had to be cancelled owing to the Covid Pandemic.

However, I stayed in touch with the Community Relations Officer, Angela Marquis, to rearrange the visit.

The Field Society was given the honour of the first group to visit Menwith after Covid. Not to spoil it for the second UWFS group to visit on 8th November, I will not go into further detail, except to say that I have received positive feedback that those who attended found it very informative.”

Royal Air Force Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station near Harrogate, which provides communications and intelligence support services to the United Kingdom and the United States. The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site. It has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world.

Sat 15 Oct: Coffee Morning

Laurie, our President, says

The UWFS Coffee Morning on Saturday 15th October was well-attended and a great success. At times, there was a queue for tables and the Raffle drew a large crowd thanks to the many generously-donated prizes. There was also a large selection of cakes and assorted produce for sale, kindly donated by our members. A big thank you goes to all those who contributed.
