Abstract – The first settlers of Britain after the end of the Ice Age found their way to Yorkshire 11,000 years ago. Don Henson will talk about what the University of York’s fieldwork at the internationally important site of Star Carr in the Vale of Pickering has revealed about the way of life these hunter-gatherers. Not only the earliest houses to be found in Britain but other rare finds show them to have been more sophisticated that many have assumed.
