At last the Bird Group was able to meet, although rain forced us to cancel the planned date and reconvene a week later.

Nine members had a most enjoyable outing, the highlight being the sighting of a cuckoo after we followed the calls.  It posed in a tree for quite a while so we had a good view.  Later we heard and spotted it again, presumably this is a favoured spot to find a host nest.

There were also many Lapwing around and Curlew , one of which was arguing with a Red Kite, presumably to protect its young.

Other birds we noticed were Red Grouse with chicks, Common Sandpiper, Meadow Pipit, Reed Bunting, Grey Wagtail, Stonechat and Willow Warbler.  Sadly we didn’t spot the Ring Ouzel this year , though several members of the group had seen them on a previous visit.

In all we spotted 29 species.
